I think all of that is true, and for sure great artists are devoted to their craft, but for me the issue is not that the ceiling is too high, it's that the floor is too high. I can sculpt in clay and I can draw on paper. I can't do either of those things particularly well, but I can at least do them. I couldn't say the same for 3D if I hadn't dedicated years of my life to it.
